It is reported that the government has planned to give an amount of one million rupees for a new hectare of coffee cultivation next year.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries has decided to cultivate 400 hectares of coffee next year and the amount allocated for this is 400 million rupees.
In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera stated that coffee cultivation is one of the main plantation crops in this country.
Even if not done, taking into account the high demand for coffee in the foreign market in this country, with the aim of re-popularizing coffee cultivation as a plantation crop, an amount of one million rupees will be given for one hectare of coffee cultivation. Coffee species are grown in this country.
The minister further stated that Arabica coffee is the most popular type of coffee, and priority is given to its cultivation.
