203 million cigarette sticks, estimated to be worth 9.7 billion rupees in the year 2021, were illegally imported under the supervision of Sarath Nonis, Head of the Customs Department, Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siambalapitiya and a group of senior officials at the Muthurajawela waste energy plant this morning (15). It is reported that the thermal power plant is to be destroyed.
It is stated that this is the largest illegal cigarette stock found by Sri Lanka Customs and Tobacco Company in the history of the country.
