It is reported that the Presidential Secretariat has informed all parties to release 29,000 acres of land in Mullaitivu district which had been demarcated by the Department of Forestry and hand it over to the people.
Village officials and representatives of provincial people’s organizations had stated in a discussion held at the Mullaitivu Provincial Office that the Department of Forest Conservation, Mahaweliya and Archeology Department had forcibly used about 100,000 acres of land belonging to the people of Mullaitivu district for delimitation, and a report on this was made by the President’s Secretary. This order has been issued after a discussion with the representatives of the Tamil political parties after the submission to the office.
Accordingly, it is reported that lands in Karadianpattu, Tunukai, Weli Oya, Pudukudi Irippu, Otusuttan and Manthei East areas of Mullaitivu district are to be freed.
