According to the World Food Program’s December survey report, it has been revealed that 35% of the country’s population has reduced their food intake.
Also, the province with the lowest food insecurity in Sri Lanka in December is the Northern Province, and the province with the highest food insecurity is the Uva Province.
The survey report states that 9 out of 10 rural families and 8 out of 10 plantation families face difficulties in buying food items on a daily basis due to the lack of places to buy food items and families’ income.
And the report further states that in December, about 10% of the families in need of assistance received assistance from the government, non-governmental organizations and the United Nations. It is reported that 38% of plantation families, 28% of urban families and 34% of rural families suffer from food insecurity.
