It is reported that the Supreme Court sentenced 06 people to 05 years imprisonment in connection with the civil unrest that occurred after the killing of Nalanda Ellawala.
It is stated that the Supreme Court confirmed the 05-year prison sentence imposed by the Ratnapura High Court on 06 people who were accused of being involved in the civil unrest that occurred after the killing of Sri Lanka Freedom Party Member of Parliament Nalanda Ellawala in 1997.
In 2007, the Ratnapura High Court found the defendants, including the former Chairman of Ratnapura Provincial Council, Sugath Dissanayake, guilty and sentenced them to 5 years in prison.
