According to information received by the officers of Hambantota Army Intelligence Division, it is reported that two suspects along with 08 kilos of amber worth 80 lakh rupees were arrested by Matara Crime Division officers yesterday (20) evening in Matara Devi Kandy area.
A 29-year-old resident of Mirissa and a 34-year-old resident of Weligama have been arrested.
According to the information received by the Hambantota army intelligence officers about the suspects, the raid was carried out jointly by the officers of the Matara Crime Division Investigation Unit operating under the Southern Province Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Amber obtained from the body of palm fish is used to produce the most expensive perfume in the world, and it is forbidden to keep close to the sale of amber in Sri Lanka. This is because the people are tempted to kill the whales.
The two arrested suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and it is said that the suspects will be presented to the Matara Magistrate Court.
