It is reported that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has received many complaints regarding these incidents.
It is said that the Ministry of Culture is currently looking for information regarding the New Year celebrations where such perverted sports elements were organized. Also, the Minister of Cultural Affairs Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake has stated that a strict decision will be taken in this regard.
Anusha Gokula Fernando, the former chairman of the Department of Cultural Affairs who commented in this regard,
“Many people have a simple understanding of Sinhala folk games, but they do not have a clear understanding of the sources and facts that led to their creation, how to use them correctly, and the importance of continuing them. As a country, these things must change immediately. It should be done. We cannot see most of the folk games that were there then. It is a very unfortunate situation. If something like this happened in another country, the people would have stood up against it first. But in Sri Lanka, it is the elderly community that supports this. That’s why everyone should pay attention to this. Actions that need to be taken should be taken. I will definitely support that.”
