It is reported that the Ratnapura High Court has sentenced Lalith Jayasinghe, the former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Sabaragamuwa Province, to the charge of pressuring Premalal Jayasekara not to be arrested.
Accordingly, Ratnapura High Court Ms. Lanka Jayaratne has sentenced the former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe to 05 years imprisonment.
The judge also ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 20,000 rupees while giving this sentence.
On January 05, 2015, a person was killed and several others were injured in a shooting incident in Kahawatta area.
The Kahawatta Police who investigated the incident had filed charges against Mr. Premalal Jayasekara, who was a deputy minister at the time and who was identified as a suspect in the incident, for pressuring the then station commander of the Kahawatta Police, Mr. Lalith Rajamantri, not to arrest him.
