It is reported that a group of 13 people who had camped and hunted in the Wilpattuwa Forest Park and Tabbowa Sanctuary for days were arrested along with firearms, motorcycles and knives used for hunting in a joint operation by the Vanathavilluwa and Karuvalagaswewa Wildlife Offices.
A group of suspects have been arrested from several areas including Vanathavillawa, Puttalam, and they are said to be in the age range of 35, 40, 45, 50, 60, 67 years.
Due to the drought, a gang has been arrested for hunting wild animals that come to Kala Oya located in the middle of Wilpatthu National Forest Park and Tabbowa Sanctuary in search of water.
They found in their possession a medicine-capping firearm and a 12-bore firearm, knives, electric torches, cactus shells filled with ammunition, ammunition, aerials, 7 motorcycles, a device used to wind motorcycles, tents, mobile phones owned by the suspects and many more. It is reported that 8 other suspects have fled during the raid.
Also, a wildlife team has been deployed to arrest those suspects.
