It is reported that the Puttalam District Development Committee meeting was held today (14) at the Puttalam District Office Auditorium.
The meeting was chaired by North West Governor Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and many political authority and government officials including MP Sabri Rahim, Sanath Nishantha, Chairman of Puttalam District Development Committee Chinthaka Mayadunna participated in it.
A discussion was held regarding the land that was given as tax and it was discussed that there is a need to collect tax from those who do not pay tax.
There, Chairman of Puttalam District Development Committee, Mr. Chinthaka Amal Mayadunna said that taxes will be taken from the common people and concessions will be given to large-scale businessmen.
A heated situation has also arisen in the discussion regarding a non-taxable land.
The reason for that is that the land in question is a land enjoyed by Puttalam District Member of Parliament Mr. Ali Sabri.
Also, the main reason for the destruction of about 100 acres of paddy fields in Tabboa Pansalgala area due to lack of water is because some person has crossed a canal flowing from the Pahariya Reservoir and built an embankment. When asked about that from the Puttalam Maha Irrigation Director, he mentioned that it has been built for some time.
When Minister Nishantha asked whether it was done legally with permission, the Irrigation Department said that it was not.
According to the decisions of the district committee, it was decided to remove the embankment and provide necessary facilities to get the necessary water for harvesting about 100 acres of paddy fields in the Tabbowa temple area.
