It is reported that a 17-year-old youth has been arrested by the Marawila Police in connection with an incident where a 15-year-old girl was raped.
A young man residing in Dematapitiya area of Lunuwila has been arrested and it is said that he has been working as a painter.
The police mention that the girl’s mother and father are absent, she has been living with her grandmother, the granddaughter who was under her care has disappeared and she is in a house in Lunuwila area.
It is said that she was a 10th grade student in a local school.
After an investigation, the girl was taken into police custody and the suspect was arrested.
The concerned girl has stated before the police that the suspect maintained a romantic relationship with her and that he had a relationship with her at her house in Katuneria about 06 months ago and that he was going to buy cloth for school uniforms. It was said that the girl went to her boyfriend’s house.
The girl has been admitted to the Marawila Basic Hospital for a medical examination, and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate Court.
Marawila Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
