It is reported that a luxury bus that had started running from Jaffna to Colombo at around 10.30 pm yesterday (29) has been destroyed by fire in the morning of today (30) in Madurankuliya – Karikettiya area.
It is said that all the passengers were on the bus at the time of the fire, but they were not injured.
The Puttalam Municipal Council’s fire fighting unit and the Palavia Air Force fire fighting unit, which were operating at that time, have brought the fire under control.
It is said that even when the fire was extinguished, the bus was completely engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed and it is reported that arrangements have been made to take the passengers of the bus to Colombo by another bus.
The Madurankuliya Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
