It is reported that Justice Minister President’s Counsel Wijayadasa Rajapaksa has said that a new bill will be submitted to Parliament to take necessary measures regarding the discipline of Members of Parliament.
He mentioned that if a member of parliament does not protect the honor of his position, the provision to revoke the member’s office has been included in the act.
Speaking to the media in the Kandy area, the Minister of Justice, President’s Advocate Wijayadasa Rajapaksa has mentioned this.
“The people of the country have a lot of criticism about the conduct and behavior of the members of parliament. That’s a fair criticism. We have taken various measures because the MPs have not fulfilled that responsibility over the past period. Meanwhile, we have submitted a proposal to the Cabinet. Present a new bill to the Parliament An Act on Parliamentary Standards. If the dignity of a member of parliament is not protected and if something illegal has been done, then an independently appointed committee should punish that member. In particular, we have included bills in that bill in such a way that the position of MP is abolished.”
