It is reported that the government is focused on establishing a post of Commissioner General of Police.
It is reported that the matter is still under discussion and a final decision will be taken in the future after informing the Cabinet.
The post of Commissioner General of Police is a civilian post established by the President.
However, the person appointed to the post of Commissioner is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the administration of the Police Department.
Accordingly, the former Inspector General of Police C. D. Political sources stated that Mr. Wickramaratne will be appointed to this position.
At present, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon has been appointed as Acting Inspector General of Police and this has been limited to 03 months.
But so far no party has announced that this appointment will be implemented as a permanent appointment.
Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Mr. Wickramaratne’s name has been proposed for the post of Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, but it is reported that the newly established post of Commissioner General of Police will be held by the former Inspector General of Police.
