It is reported that the Irrigation Department has warned that a large level of flooding may occur in several Divisional Secretariats due to significant rainfall in the upper and middle reaches of the Maha Oya Basin.
Accordingly, it is stated that there is a possibility of large-scale flooding in the low-lying areas of the Maha Oya Valley belonging to the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Alavwa, Divulapitiya, Mirigama, Pannala, Wennappuwa, Negombo, Katana, Narammala and Dankotuwa.
Also, the Irrigation Department has stated that the floodgates of Danduru Oya, Tabbowa, Weheralagala, Lunugamwehera, Mawara and Udawalawa reservoirs have been opened further.
It is reported that many low-lying lands and houses in Bagavantlawa have been flooded due to the overflow of Keselgamuyoya along with the heavy rains that fell on Bagwantlawa Mahaeliya Reserve and Bagwantlawa.
