A cargo ship carrying nearly 3,000 cars caught fire in the ocean off the coast of the Dutch island of Amaland, killing one sailor and injuring 22 others.
The crew members were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties, burns and other injuries and one of the 25 electric vehicles on board may have caused the fire, and the fire could last for days, a spokesman for the Dutch Coast Guard has stated.
The cargo ship left the port of Bremerhaven in Northern Germany for Port Said in Egypt last Tuesday.
The crew members first tried to put out the fire themselves, but failed and were reportedly forced to evacuate.
