An 8-month-old baby has died while being treated in the intensive care unit of the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo. The parents of the baby allege that their child died while being admitted to the intensive care unit due to a critical illness following a vaccination.
According to reports, this child was admitted to Avissawella Hospital for treatment on August 4 due to frequent fever. Later, the baby was transferred to Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo on August 5 for further treatment.
The baby’s parents have stated that the child became critical after receiving an injection and was admitted to the intensive care unit. The baby died on the 19th while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
It is said that the last rites of the baby’s body were done yesterday (20) at the family cemetery.
An 8-month-old baby resident of Apalapitiya, Avissawella has lost his life.
Regarding the incident, Director of Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Dr. G. Wijesuriya has stated that an explanation will be made today (21) regarding the death of this baby and the death reported recently from Kelaniya area.
