It is reported that the National Crafts Council has announced that environmentally friendly degradable products will be introduced in the market as a substitute for the banned plastic products.
Accordingly, instead of the banned plastic spoons, forks, plates and hopper trays, wooden spoons and forks produced by local artisans using biodegradable materials as well as reusable eco-friendly products are to be popularized.
It is planned to implement this program with the support of the Central Environment Authority and it is said that the manufacturers have expressed their willingness to provide these local products to the consumers at a small amount or less compared to the price of plastic products.
The National Crafts Council expresses confidence that it will be possible to save the amount of dollars spent on the import of plastic goods.
