It is reported that the Department of Immigration has taken steps to revise the fines charged for people who overstay their visas and the related gazette notice was issued yesterday (21) with the signature of the Minister of Public Security Mr. Tiran Alas.
Accordingly, a person who overstays in the country was previously charged $500 per day, and according to the new amendment, it will be charged after 14 days of overstaying the visa, and no amount will be charged during the first 7 days of overstaying the visa. It is also mentioned that 250 dollars will be charged for the period of 7 days.
A senior official of the Immigration Department has stated that this decision was taken based on several complaints received from foreigners.
