A second year student of Peradeniya University Faculty of Allied Health attempted to commit suicide early this morning (08) and was admitted to Peradeniya Hospital for treatment after his efforts failed.
Police say that the student tried to commit suicide in the room on the second floor of Senaka Bibile dormitory at around one in the morning, where he fell on the ground and got injured and was taken to the hospital by the students.
This 25-year-old student from Batticaloa did not go out to have dinner with other students last night. The other students brought him food and the door was closed when he was talking.
Later, when the students entered the room through the windows and searched, they saw the student lying on the floor and took him to the hospital.
According to internal information, this student is one of the four students who were identified in the investigation of the group of students who started harassing a group of freshmen last year by showing obscene scenes on the Internet.
The four students were called to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations related to the harassment incident and three students have gone to the Criminal Investigation Department to face this investigation.
But it has been reported that this student has not gone to the Criminal Investigation Department till now.
Investigations have focused on whether there is a connection between this incident and the suicide attempt.
