It is reported that the customs have formalized the “Door to Door” method used by people living abroad to send goods to their homes in Sri Lanka, and the customs have taken steps to identify and collect the duty on the dutiable goods sent under that method.
Under the “Do to Do” method, when sending goods from a foreign country to Sri Lanka, it is possible to send the same goods or parcel to the respective house.
The customs says that the goods sent under this system will be subjected to a customs clearance process from the 1st of December, and accordingly the goods will be subjected to strict inspection.
After that process, it is stated that the relevant stock of goods is to be given to “Do to Do” distributors.
Customs also says that this system will be formalized to prevent this service from being used to transport narcotics, restricted or prohibited goods.
Customs has stated that the goods currently shipped will be allowed to be delivered without customs clearance process until the 30th of this month.
