It is reported that the Department of Epidemiology has said that it has been decided to provide an additional dose of measles vaccine for children between the ages of 6 and 9 months.
Its chief specialist Dr. Samitha Ginige said that the program will be started on the 6th of next year covering 9 selected districts.
Commenting further on this matter, Dr. Samitha Ginige, Head of Epidemiology Department, said,
“This vaccination program will be launched based on 09 areas namely Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matara, Galle and Kalmunai. If a young child gets measles, it can lead to long-term complications. This is an additional dose of vaccine. The correct dose of vaccine must be received at full age.”
