The Excise Department reports that some companies involved in alcohol production have been closed for two to three weeks because local alcohol sales have dropped by 30%.
Also, Surabdu Commissioner General Mr. Saman Jayasinghe stated that the beer produced by some manufacturing companies was kept in warehouses even though it was about to expire and due to this, the sale of local alcohol has fallen. He further stated that more attention will be paid to increase the income to 30 to 35 billion.
Also, the Excise Commissioner states that the price of ethanol has come down now. The Excise Department reports that people are buying alcohol at a lower percentage.
