It is reported that the Ceylon Electricity Board has been given permission to increase electricity tariffs from today (20).
Accordingly, it is stated that the Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to make a statement today (20) regarding how the revised rates will increase according to the amount of units that use electricity.
The Public Utilities Commission further informs that the percentage increase in electricity charges will be announced soon.
It is further reported that according to the review of the facts made after the public consultation, the Public Utilities Commission has approved an increase in electricity tariffs of about 18 percent, and an official statement is scheduled to be made today in this regard.
The public consultation program on the proposed increase in electricity tariffs was also held on the 18th at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo.
However, the national organizer of the All Ceylon Small Industries Association Mr. Niluksha Kumara has stated that there is no transparency in this public consultation program while attending a press conference held in Colombo.
