According to the information provided by the Government Medical Officers’ Association in relation to a request made by the Ministry of Health under the Freedom of Information Act, it is reported that the health system has lost 850 general practitioners within a period of one year.
Accordingly, Mr. Chamil Wijesinghe, the media spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers’ Association has stated that between the first of June last year and the 31st of May this year, doctors have left the service and 274 specialist doctors have left the country.
