It is reported that the Minister of State for Indigenous Medicine, Mr. Sisira Jayakodi, while presenting the Ayurveda Amendment Bill to the Parliament, said that the approval required for the cultivation of medicinal hemp will be announced through the gazette notification of the Ayurvedic Law Code.
Mr. Sisira Jayakodi said that not only hemp but many more medicines are imported and these should be promoted as commercial crops, otherwise the traditional medicine will disappear.
Also, the state minister mentioned that Ayurveda practitioners and practitioners will be given “NVQ Level 4” level training and registration in Ayurveda, and the name of Borella Ayurveda General Hospital will be amended as Ayurveda National Hospital.
Speaking further, Mr. Sisira Jayakodi said that the purpose of this act is to make the Ayurveda department more efficient and that the post of Ayurveda Commissioner will be promoted to the post of Ayurveda Commissioner General by this act.
