It is reported that a person posing as a co-ordinating secretary of the Minister of Public Security was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in Halawata, Kottaramulla area.
The suspect is 37-year-old Varnakulasuriya Nilanga Manoj Fernando.
On the last 18th, a ministry staff officer was threatened with obscene words in a phone call and according to a complaint received in this regard, he was arrested on the last 19th. Earlier also, the Minister of Public Security had influenced the police officers by pretending to be a coordinating secretary.
It is reported that the suspect pleaded guilty after being presented to the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday (20) and was released on bail after declaring that he is ready for a settlement in the future.
It is stated that the Criminal Investigation Department will carry out further investigations regarding the incident.
