The agreement to build 1,996 houses for low-income earners, artists and journalists with the assistance of the Chinese government was signed today (27) and the Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga signed the relevant agreement on behalf of the Sri Lankan government and the Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka signed it on behalf of the Chinese government. It is also mentioned as Chi Shenhong.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has said that out of the 1,996 houses that will be built within three years, 1,888 houses will be allocated to low-income people living in Colombo, and 108 houses will be allocated to artists and journalists.
Accordingly, 615 houses in Peliyagoda Dutugemunu Road, 586 houses in Dematagoda Elumaduwa Estate, 575 houses in Moratuwa Battery Estate, 112 houses in Maharagama Ambowatta and 108 houses in Kottawa Fruit Garden and 108 houses in Kottawa Fruit Garden are allocated for artists and journalists.
The Chinese government is providing financial assistance of 552 million yuan for this project, which is approximately 24.48 billion rupees in Sri Lankan currency.
