A project to digitize and preserve the ancient murals of Sri Lanka was started today (26) under the leadership of Minister Vidura Wickramanayake and it is reported that its inauguration was done at Kiribathgoda Sudarshanarama.
Accordingly, 874 temples containing ancient frescoes registered in the Department of Archeology are to be videotaped and photographed and preserved.
The Ministry of Buddhism and Religion and Culture has stated that the relevant preserved paintings have been deposited in the Conservation and Research Center and that a digital copy will be given to the temple containing the relevant murals.
