According to the Electricity Act, the Ceylon Electricity Board has agreed to pay the interest to be paid for the amount deposited in getting an electricity connection from July, and to pay the interest to be paid for the deposits of the common people first. It is reported that Mr. Ravindranath Dabare said.
Dr. Ravindranath Dabare, who gave further comments,
“That interest belongs to the electricity consumers, but the electricity board did not give that right. Therefore, we had to go to the court and fight a big battle. Through this, we got a possibility to pay the interest for the deposit received when the electricity connection is provided. The electricity board promised to pay the interest from July. But that too in two parts. First for large customers and from January for small customers. It also hits the little guy. We demand that the interest money for the deposits of the common people be paid first.”
