The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, has given relevant instructions to the government-owned fertilizer companies and accordingly, 21,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer is scheduled to be distributed from today (09).
It is also stated that a bundle of 50 kg urea fertilizer is going to be sold for 9,000 rupees.
The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the fertilizer has been made available to purchase from all agricultural service centers.
In addition to this, it is reported that the government has also taken steps to provide an amount of 15,000 rupees per hectare to each farmer who cultivates paddy to purchase chemical fertilizers or organic fertilizers according to the farmers’ choice.
The Ministry of Agriculture further mentioned that the Minister of Agriculture has given instructions to the government owned fertilizer companies to give priority to the supply of other fertilizers including urea for paddy cultivation as well as for other crops including vegetables.
