It is reported that the Director (Compliance and Investigations) of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Fredika Livera, informed the telephone service companies not to provide mobile phone SIM cards for the national identity cards of deceased persons.
She further stated that when a person dies, mobile phone service companies were instructed to disconnect their respective mobile phones and to prohibit the issuance of mobile phone SIM cards to their national identity card numbers.
Also, the Director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Council stated that a list of the national identity card numbers of the deceased persons and the telephone numbers they used is obtained from the Divisional Secretariats to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission once every month.
