It is reported that the importation of electric vehicles brought for foreign workers started yesterday (9) and the work of releasing those vehicles from customs has also started.
Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has stated that Sri Lankans working abroad have received cabinet approval to import electric vehicles worth half of the remittances to Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, he has stated that by the end of last year, foreign remittances have grown to 475 million dollars.
Thus, it is said that the tax paid during the importation of these vehicles should be paid in foreign currency.
The minister has mentioned that there is a lot of interest of expatriate workers for this.
