LK. It is reported that the gazette announcement related to the appointment of Mr. Jagath Priyankara has been issued.
The General Secretary of the Parliament had notified the Election Commission that there was a vacancy in the position of a Member of Parliament and L.K. It has been stated in the relevant gazette announcement that Mr. Jagath Priyankara has been elected.
In the parliamentary election held in 2020, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna won 05 parliamentary seats from Puttalam district and the late Mr. Sanath Nishantha was the first in the preference list.
As the other four, Priyankara Jayaratne, Arundika Fernando, Chinthaka Amal Mayadunna and Ashoka Priyantha were elected to Parliament from that party and Mr. LK Jagath Priyankara was ranked 6th in the preference list with 40,527 votes.
Accordingly, Mr. Jagath Priyankara has the right to fill the vacant position of MP due to the death of Mr. Sanath Nishantha and he is the Puttalam district leader of the National Freedom Front led by Mr. Wimal Weerawansa.
