It is reported that the strike started by luxury private bus workers plying on the Fort-Katunayake highway has ended.
Mr. Indika Gunasekara, President of the Airport-Fort Bus Employees Union, stated that the strike was carried out against the amendment of a bus route.
However, following a discussion with the Minister of State for Transport Mr. Lasantha Alagiyawanna yesterday (28) afternoon, he has mentioned that according to the agreement reached, the running of buses will resume from today (29).
“We started a discussion under the chairmanship of Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna. He said that the problem related to this road will be solved within two days. We agreed to it because the minister said it. But many passengers are lost. Therefore, we have abandoned the strike for now and run as usual for two days. If there is no permanent solution within two days, we will go on a bigger strike.”
