It has been reported that a survey has revealed that 60% of the fifth grade students in Galle city in the southern province and related schools suffer from lice.
It is said that due to the spread of lice, the children’s education and sleep have been seriously disturbed.
Amila Chandrasiri, a community medicine expert, has stated that the students of Ruhunu University’s Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and the officers of the Galle District Health Services Office conducted this survey using four hundred and twenty fifth grade female students in Galle city and several related schools.
According to this survey conducted by presenting a questionnaire, it has been revealed that 60% of girls are facing serious problems due to excessive head lice.
Dermatologist Dr. Achala Liyanage, who participated in this survey, has stated that things like not cleaning the oily head, dust staying on the head, and not combing the head properly can be pointed out as the reasons for the rapid spread of head lice in children.
However, community expert Dr. Amila Chandrasiri has further stated that the health and education officials of the southern province have planned to look into this problem urgently and remedy the situation.
