It is reported that the final procession of the annual procession festival of the temple of Mawanella Aluthnuwara Sree Ketanmunda Temple is scheduled to be held tonight.
Accordingly, the last procession of this year’s Perahera Festival, which will be held for ten days under the leadership of Mr. Mahindra Ratwatte, Basnayaka Nilame of Kandy Sri Vishnu Maha Temple and Aluthnuwara Techanmunda Temple, will be toured today (22) and it is stated that steps have been taken to add nearly 20 elephants for the procession.
Also, starting the procession activities, the procession in which the Basnayake Nilame will be welcomed near the kirikos tree according to the ancient ritual and brought to the valley will start at 2.00 pm and at 8.00 pm the procession to bring the Basnayake Nilame from the valley to the courtyard will join with the Rajamaha vihara’s procession and this time the last procession will begin at 9.00 pm. Tomorrow (23rd) the Perahera festival is scheduled to end after the noon Perahera.
It is also reported that the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Kegalle District Secretariat and many public and private institutions have organized activities to provide facilities for the devotees who come to watch the procession.
