It is reported that more than a thousand acres of maize cultivation in Anuradhapura, Mahakandarawa farming business is in serious danger due to Sena caterpillar damage.
Farmers say that the army caterpillar damage occurred earlier during the emergence of maize, but this season, the army caterpillar damage has come about twelve days after the start of maize cultivation.
Maize farmers are of the opinion that armyworm damage has been caused to maize cultivation for several years and although the relevant authorities have informed about this on several occasions, none of the responsible institutions including the Department of Agriculture have provided any remedy.
Farmers emphasize that they cannot expect a successful harvest due to the damage caused by armyworms.
