It is reported that the Foreign Employment Bureau of Sri Lanka has mentioned that a person who went to Oman on a tourist visa to work as a mason was subjected to brutal torture in that country and was rescued by the country’s embassy and sent to Sri Lanka.
It was after the man’s wife complained to the Foreign Employment Bureau that her husband, who had gone to Oman, was being subjected to various tortures in that country.
After the complaint was made, the officials of the Foreign Employment Bureau, who immediately came into action, have informed the officials of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman about this. Accordingly, the officials of the Oman Embassy intervened and arranged to send the mason to Sri Lanka on the 7th.
Also, a resident of Matugama-Navuttuduwa, who allegedly sent this bricklayer to Oman on a tourist visa, has also been arrested by Foreign Employment Bureau officials and it has been revealed in the investigations that he has charged a sum of 7,50,000 rupees to send the bricklayer to Oman.
It is reported that the arrested suspect has been remanded until the 20th of this month after being produced before the Matugama Magistrate’s Court.
