It is reported that during an operation carried out yesterday (22) by a group of Ahangama police officers including the station commander, some people severely attacked them and the police jeep was also severely damaged.
This incident took place while going to arrest illegal liquor, where a group of policemen interfered with their duties and carried out this attack.
The Police Headquarters declares that a Police Inspector Chandana has been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital with serious injuries.
Also, a large number of other people involved in this attack have been arrested and police investigations are being conducted for that, the police said.
Other sources say that the police station commander was also attacked, but the police headquarters has not confirmed it.
However, the police say that necessary investigations will be carried out to arrest this group.
