In the absence of a proper mechanism to verify the quality of medicines, it is reported that Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has held a discussion with the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the establishment of a high quality laboratory in Sri Lanka to check the quality of medicines.
Commenting on this matter, the Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has stated that on August 15, he held a discussion with the representative of the World Health Organization, Dr. Alanka Singh, and focused on important issues.
The Minister has also stated that he has requested the World Health Organization to provide Terms of Reference (ToR) and specifications for the operation of such a laboratory.
The minister who commented further,
“If we can establish such a laboratory in Sri Lanka, we can generate income by conducting tests for other countries in the region.”
