The Court of Appeal has issued an interim order to the Inland Revenue Department to prevent judges from collecting taxes for the personal income tax that will be implemented from the first month of this year.
It is stated that the Court of Appeal has issued this order after considering the writ petition filed by the plaintiffs’ association by the judges Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.
Accordingly, for the first month of this year, the income tax deductions deducted from the salary of the judges to be temporarily stopped from being sent to the Inland Revenue Department and not to collect the taxes to be collected according to the new income tax amendments under the Inland Revenue Act No. 2017. It is stated that the chief financial officer of the ministry has sent letters to all the court accountants and registrars.
