It is reported that the government has decided to cut off the overtime allowances of the petroleum workers with an estimate of more than 360 crore rupees for the payment of the overtime allowances of the petroleum workers this year.
It is reported that this prepared estimate has been forwarded by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Oil Storage Terminal Company to the Ministry of Finance for its approval. It is also reported that an overtime allowance of 180 crore rupees has been estimated for the employees of the storage terminal company only.
In the year 2019, 172 crore rupees were given as overtime allowances to the employees of the Warehouse Terminal Company and one crore sixty lakh rupees in the year 2020 and it is reported that a similar amount has been given as overtime allowances to the employees of the Petroleum Corporation.
More than 1500 crores of rupees are spent per year for the salaries and other allowances paid to the employees of these two institutions and some employees receive almost twice the amount of overtime as overtime allowances. It is reported that
