It is reported that the train carrying Prima Piti, which was running from the Chinese port to Seeduwa, got stuck at Mahawa railway station today (120 am) due to which the train traffic on the Eastern Railway was disrupted.
It is said that there was no damage to the road due to the derailment of the train, two sets of wheels of the guard box and one wheel of one box carrying flour were derailed.
Due to the derailment of this Prima Piti train, the night mail train from Colombo Fort to Trincomalee, the mixed train from Mahawa to Batticaloa and the Pulathisi intercity express train from Batticaloa to Colombo Fort have run late.
It is also reported that the trains running on the Eastern Railway were diverted at the Mahawa intersection and due to the increase in the length of the Prima Piti train, four boxes of the train were removed and the track was opened and the train was able to run.
