For several days, wharf clerks have been late in reporting to work until 9.30 am, due to which cleared containers as well as vehicles carrying containers to be cleared were piled up in and outside the Orugudawatta customs clearance yard. It is also reported that traffic on the road was obstructed.
Accordingly, it is stated that the customs department has issued a request to the wharf clerks to report to duty in the morning every day.
Also yesterday (11) it is reported that Mr. Peter Gunawardena, Director of the Central Goods Inspection Division of the Customs Department stated that only two wharf clerks came to work at 09.30 am.
