She mentioned that rat fever is more prevalent in Gampaha, Kurunegala, Galle Matara, and there is a higher risk of rat fever among people working in mines in Ratnapura district.
The expert doctor has also informed the people to seek medical treatment immediately if symptoms such as fever, sore throat, yellowing of the eyes persist for more than three days.
Dr. Tushari Dabarera also mentioned that due to flood conditions, cases of rat fever have been reported from many areas and 5% of the reported cases of rat fever have died due to lack of timely treatment.
Furthermore, to avoid drinking the water in the paddy fields and to wash the face, and during the harvesting period in the paddy fields, the concerned persons should take the antibiotics given for rat fever at least once in two weeks, and the drugs can be obtained from the office of the Health Medical Officer of the area.
