It is reported that two residents of Kurunegala Ganewatta Makulvewa village had died of rat fever on the 9th.
The concerned persons, aged 38 and 39, fell ill after taking a dip in the Kirindiwelmada lake in the area.
Locals say that 12 more people from Makulwewa area have been admitted to Kurunegala Teaching Hospital with fever.
The health authorities of the area point out that there is a risk of rat fever spreading due to the dry weather conditions, as people come to the lakes with low water for fishing and bathing.
