It is reported that the Sri Lanka Press Institute has prepared a report on the foreign exchange received by Sri Lanka during the period from the reign of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to 2022 when Gotabaya Rajapaksa was in power.
According to the report, the foreign exchange reserves, which were 1.6 billion dollars in 2002, had increased to 2.65 billion dollars by the end of Chandrika Bandaranaike’s tenure in 2005.
In the first year when Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed power in 2005, the foreign exchange was 2.73 billion dollars and by the end of his tenure in 2015, it had grown to 6.54 billion dollars. It is reported to be 7.32 billion dollars.
