It is reported that the Ministry of Health has announced that necessary steps have been taken to bring the special test kits to detect the ‘Nipa’ virus which has been reported from several countries including India.
The Ministry of Health states that there is no need for the people of this country to have undue fear regarding the virus in question.
Also, in order to face any risk situation, special test kits required to detect the Nipah virus with the recommendation of the World Health Organization have been ordered and they are scheduled to be received in Sri Lanka in a few days.
But while commenting in this regard, Dr. Janaki Abeynayake, a virologist, has stated that no specific treatment or vaccine has been produced globally for patients infected with the Nipah virus.
Also, the head of the epidemiology department, Mr. Samitha Ginige, has mentioned that the spread of Nipah virus is very slow and there is no risk of it spreading between countries.
