A Police Sergeant and a Police Constable of the Kantale Headquarters Police, who allegedly extorted Rs 1,000 from the person in order to avoid prosecution in court against a person who allegedly drove a motorcycle without a driver’s license, have been banned with effect from today (10). are reported.
The two officers have been suspended from work by the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Kantale division Mr. Buddhika Manatunga after conducting a preliminary investigation.
The police said that this money was taken by force after it was discovered that he did not have a driver’s license to ride the motorcycle when the man was stopped and checked near the Kantale post office on the 8th.
